Issue 17: No Matter What, Keep Moving Forward

Behind-The-Scenes

BestSelf Co. had its first team retreat in the Poconos! All 7 team members from 6 cities met up for a 3-day cottage retreat. Having a remote team is awesome because we can all work from anywhere but only seeing each other on video calls each week just isn’t the same as having 1-1 in person time. It gave us the opportunity to bond, have fun, and plan out the future of BestSelf Co.

But before we got down to business, we had some fun first… by robbing a bank!

Bank Heist

We went to the Escape Room Poconos (read: Best team bonding activity ever.) and got out with 5 minutes to spare.

Now it was time to get to the real stuff… brainstorming, strategizing, and planning out all the amazing work we want to do for the next 5+ years.

Sticky Note Planning Process

That’s a lot of sticky notes! The future of BestSelf Co. is all laid out right there. We can’t tell you exactly what’re on those post-its… guess you’ll have to stick around to find out!

You’ve heard us talking about Marie Forleo a lot these last few weeks… it’s because we love her!

We’d been following her work for years (she has built an online empire after all!) but we first met her at the Shopify Build-A Business Competition last summer.

Shopify Build A Business

Even over the span of just a few days, she taught us what it means to build an authentic, enjoyable online business. We learned how to make sure the products we send to you guys always meets our standards and how to build a community (BestSelf Alliance members… you guys are awesome).

Most of all, she taught us how to build a business that we love working on and you guys love being part of.

Now Marie can do the same for you! With B-School, a 100%-online course, you can learn everything we learned and so much more. Even if you’ve got no business yet, she’ll help you build one. You’ll learn to:

  1. Build A Solid Profit Plan
(because to deliver great products, you’ve got to have a solid foundation)

  2. Create A Website That Converts
(your website is the portal to everything you have to offer!)

  3. Design Your Content & Communication Plan
(great businesses communicate clearly & authentically)

  4. Nurture & Grow Your Email List
(our email list is how we’re getting to speak to you right now!)

  5. Deliver Products & Services Customers Love
    (the most important part!)

  6. Develop A Marketing Strategy For Your Business
(no, not sleazy tricks. It’s marketing authentically, with integrity and transparency)

You can find more details about the B-School program here.

B-SchoolWhether you’d like to build a business to change the world,

“The bottom line is that we've increased our bottom line by over $100,000. This means a lot of great things for children with autism all over the world.”

Molly Ola Pinney, Founder/CEO of Global Autism Project, New York, USA

Or share your products with those who’ll love it,

“Every day I wake up to see that people from all over the world are buying our products, and I go to bed at night knowing that I'm making a difference.”

Nathalie Lussier, Digital Strategist & Founder of AmbitionAlly.com, Texas, USA

Or make more time for your kids,

“My business started with no revenue and one year later I was making nearly $15,000 a month. Now, I’m able to work from home and control my own schedule which is particularly valuable since I have a 5 month old and an 8 year old.”

Tiffany Rothe, Founder, TRFC, California, USA & Playa Del Carmen, Mexico

New Stuff

Sometimes we struggle with getting through the work we need to do to achieve our goals. It doesn’t matter how important, how crucial, or even how fun it might be. Sometimes our brains just don’t seem to be able to get through that final push when times get tough.

But we see some people, especially the successful ones, be able to keep persevering and keep moving forward no matter what. Psychologists would say those people had grit. Grit is a personality trait based on someone’s passion for achieving a long-term goal along with motivation for achieving their objectives along the way.

And sometimes we struggle through it too. That’s why we’ve put together this blog post for you (and for us): 5 Ways To Build Grit.

It reminds us of how we can build grit when times get tough.

5 Ways To Build Grit Blog Post

Put into SELF Journal terms, if you have grit, it means you have a never-ending desire to achieve the 13-week goal and you’re motivated to hit those daily targets every single day no matter what. That’s grit. To achieve any goal, we’ve got to have grit. There’s no way around it. Check out the blog post here.

Customer Stories

Congrats to the Customer Shares winner of this week, Tony Blout!

We loved this shot of his SELF Journal… all filled out after a productive morning. (Plus there’s a cat in the picture so we couldn’t resist!)

You can see the winners and other pictures on our Customer Shares page. Each week, we choose a picture of a filled-in SELF Journal on Instagram with the hashtag #SELFJournal.

Their prize? The BestSelf bundle… a collection of one of every single one of our products.

That could be you next week! Drop whatever you’re doing, grab your phone, and post up a picture of your SELF Journal on Instagram with the hashtag #SELFJournal.

“Grit is that 'extra something' that separates the most successful people from the rest. It's the passion, perseverance, and stamina that we must channel in order to stick with our dreams until they become a reality. ”
