Somebody at your table has a haunted-house story. They've just never been asked.

Spooky Talk is 31 Halloween conversation starters, the kind that get your uncle admitting which horror movie still keeps him up at night, or your kid explaining (very seriously) why the doll in the guest room is possessed. Some are easy, like your favorite candy or your first costume. Some get weirder. One asks what you'd want etched on your tombstone, and people have strong opinions about that one.

  1. Mobile version: one question per screen. Open it on your phone at dinner, swipe to the next card, pass it around. No printer, no scissors.
  2. Printable version: 8 cards per letter-size page, all 31 cards across 4 pages, plus a cover. Print on cardstock if you've got it, cut along the lines, and drop them in a bowl next to the candy.

Most people won't tell a ghost story if you just ask them for one. Ask what the creepiest thing that's happened to them while they were alone is, and suddenly there's a story about a motion-sensor light in a garage that nobody can explain. A specific question gives people somewhere to start.

The cards also go from silly to strange in no particular order, so nobody gets stuck on a heavy one for long. Somebody's defending their candy ranking one minute, and the next they're explaining the noise they still hear in their grandma's attic.

Spontaneously Fun

I couldn’t have received the email newsletter at a better time about this little fun pack–during a creative block. It inspired a few spooky illustrations by the end of the month and I’m excited to have it in my collection.
